BigShort Charts & Navigation

Before getting into the juicy stuff, let’s quickly review the basics of navigating charts within BigShort.

Updated this week

Before getting into the juicy stuff, let’s quickly review the basics of navigating charts within BigShort. If you take a few moments to open the SF Segregated page and click along to this section, it will help you fully understand the detailed BigShort Indicator sections.

Charts & Chart Settings

Charts appear on many pages in BigShort. If there’s a chart, the settings and key behaviors are described here. See the corresponding section in Key Concepts & BigShort indicators for more detail.

Candlestick Pane

The Candlestick Pane is the largest pane on the platform because it shows the Price Action—our most important indicator. Monitoring Price Action helps you understand what the stock is doing in real time.

Other key indicators in this pane include:

  • Dark Pool Prints – These act as support or resistance levels.

  • GEX (Gamma Exposure) – The green line represents the call wall, the red line is the put wall, and the turquoise line marks the Zero Gamma Flip.

This is just a preview of the indicators available in this pane. We’ll dive deeper into how each indicator works and how it signals potential trades in the “Indicators in Order of Importance” section. 🔥🔥🔥

Ticker & Date Selector

In the upper-left corner, you’ll see the Ticker & Date Selector. This is where users can enter a stock ticker and choose the date for which they want to view market data. We currently support all tickers from the S&P 500 and Nasdaq.

In the image above, we selected SPY on October 6, 2025.

Below the Ticker & Date Selector, you can see the price and gain/loss of the selected ticker, along with the last updated time.

Timeframe and Historical Data

In our chart, you can select 5m, 1h, or 1d as your Timeframe, depending on your preference and trading style.

When you click Historical, you’ll see the past data of the selected ticker.

Radial gauges

In the top-right corner, you can see the Radial gauges showing the current values for SmartFlow, MomoFlow, GEX, and Skew.

Note: Skew is available only with an Elite Subscription. We recommend upgrading to access this feature. 💪

SmartFlow Pane

In the SmartFlow Pane, we can see the SmartFlow Indicator, which is a BigShort leading indicator. SmartFlow shows the type of trading activity driven by algorithms, not emotions. It often comes from big players like market makers and mega funds, who use automated strategies to manage risk, rotate positions, or respond to price changes in milliseconds.

This type of flow is fast, calculated, and consistent. It includes high-frequency trading (HFT), hedging, and other formula-based moves that do not rely on gut feelings. By tracking SmartFlow, you get a glimpse into how the “machines” are moving, which can help you spot key shifts in the market.

💡 Tip for New Users:

OptionFlow Pane

The fourth and final pane we’ll cover is the OptionFlow Pane.

Traditional option volume treats buys and sells equally—1 million contracts bought and 1 million contracts sold just show up as volume, with no clue about direction. That’s where Net Option Flow comes in.

Net Option Flow

Net Option Flow separates buys from sells to show directional bias:

  • Call (blue) Buys point upward, signaling bullish interest.

  • Call (blue) Sells point downward, signaling bearish pressure.

  • Put (purple) Buys point upward, signaling bearish interest

  • Put (purple) Sells point downward, signaling bullish interest

You’ll dive deeper into this in the ‘Indicators in Order of Importance’ section. It’s definitely worth exploring! 😎 👌

Clicking the tooltip shows a full summary of trading flows and key metrics. It helps you quickly see what’s happening in the market.

Chart Settings

Chart settings let you customize how your charts look and respond.

To see what each option does, hover over the info icon. Since every trader has their own style, we offer flexible settings. If you're just starting out, we recommend using the Recommended Settings for the best experience.

Tip for New Users:

Just use Recommended Settings until you fully understand the nuances of every indicator.

Draw Lines button

The Draw Lines button lets you place lines on the chart that you can drag and resize.

It’s useful for marking trends, support and resistance levels, or any custom reference points.

Restore Chart View button

Puts the navigation slider zoom back to its default settings.

Candle-Only Scaling button

This ensures that only the OHLC candlesticks resize the pane, instead of the indicators that extend beyond the range.

Full Screen button

The Full Screen button expands the dashboard to fill your entire screen, hiding menus and toolbars so you can focus fully on the chart or data view.

Next Step: Understanding the Importance of BigShort Indicators

Now that we’re familiar with the indicators in the SF Segregated set provided by BigShort, it’s easier to identify where they appear on the screen and understand the basic function of each pane.

In the next section, we’ll move on to one of the most exciting parts of this user guide, Indicators in Order of Importance. Here, we’ll take a closer look at each indicator, explore how it works on the chart, and learn how it can help predict potential price movements.

By applying these insights, you’ll gain a clearer perspective for generating trading ideas and making more confident decisions. Ultimately, these tools are designed to help you grow as a trader and become more consistently profitable.

Without further ado, let’s begin our next learning adventure!
